Next, it is necessary to inspect the capacitor externally again, to make sure that there are no irregularities on the surface or other damage. Non-electrolytic capacitors are tested as follows. In the case of a serviceable capacitor, you will get a value of more than two megaohms. The measurement of electrolytic and non-electrolytic capacitors is different. In the case of electrolytic devices, the leakage resistance is more than one hundred kOhms. Therefore, they must be discharged before testing. Then the measurement mode on the device is set to one hundred kOhms and, observing the polarity, we carry out the measurement. Note that during the measurement, charging occurs, so the capacitor changes values. As soon as charging is completed, the resistance value will increase to one hundred kOhms. This value is an indicator of the serviceability of the capacitor. Dial ohmmeters (analog) have the same principle of checking as digital ones. If the deviation of the arrow, i.e. the increase in resistance, is carried out to the end, while gradually, it can be assumed that the capacitor capacity is large enough. For reliable verification, it is better to have a multimeter with the function of checking the capacitance of the capacitor.
